Timanfaya National Park Tickets: Prices, Entrance Fee and How to Book
Timanfaya National Park entry costs €30 for adults and is sold online only, on timed slots, with no gate sales. Prices for every age, what the ticket includes, how to book, and when a tour is cheaper.
Timanfaya National Park costs €30 for an adult, €15 for a child aged 7 to 12, and nothing for under-sevens. The main attraction, Montañas del Fuego, now uses timed online admission: the ticket is sold online only, tied to a date and an arrival slot, and it cannot be changed or refunded once bought. There are no walk-up sales at the gate, so if you drive up without a booking you will not get in. That is also why a tour that bundles the entry can be worth more than the price gap suggests.

These are the official rates on the park operator’s ticket shop (CACT Lanzarote), tax included. The shop also lists combined resident-and-disability rates. All reduced rates are only valid with physical documents shown at the ticket office: an identity card or passport, proof of residence where the address is not on it, or official proof of the degree of disability. Without them, the ticket is cancelled without a refund and you pay full price.
What €30 gets you
The standard admission includes:
- entry to Montañas del Fuego, the visitor area of the national park
- Islote de Hilario and its viewpoint over the crater field
- the geothermal demonstrations
- free visitor parking at Islote de Hilario
- the official Ruta de los Volcanes coach
The coach is not an extra ticket. It is a route of about 14 kilometres through the interior of the crater field, conceived by César Manrique, that takes about thirty-five minutes with a recorded commentary. You stay aboard throughout. It is the only way to see the centre of the park: the road is closed to private cars and to walkers, and the landscape it crosses is the reason the park exists.
At Islote de Hilario, park staff drop dry brushwood into a shallow pit and it catches without a flame; they pour water down a borehole and it returns, seconds later, as a jet of steam several metres high. The heat left by the 1730–36 eruption still measures 100 to 120 °C at the surface, and above 600 °C thirteen metres down.
You can also eat at the El Diablo restaurant, whose grill sits over a five-metre well where the natural heat reaches around 250 °C. It does not take reservations. What the ticket does not cover is any walking beyond the terraces, food, or the camel rides at the Echadero de los Camellos, which are paid separately.
How to book
- Book on the official ticket shop and choose your date.
- Pick an available entry time. Slots are limited by daily capacity.
- Keep the QR code on your phone; there is no need to print anything. One QR code covers everyone in the booking, and everyone on it has to enter together.
- Arrive at the ticket office about 15 minutes before your slot. Once your time has passed, entry is not guaranteed.
The ticket is valid only for the date and time you chose. It cannot be exchanged or refunded, so a cancelled flight, a cloudy morning or a change of plan is your loss, not the park’s. Montañas del Fuego is open every day of the year, with the official hours listed as 09:30 to 15:45, and the operator puts the whole visit at about 90 minutes.
The entrance checkpoint is on the LZ-602 between Yaiza and Tinajo. From there to Islote de Hilario you have to stay in your car: stopping or getting out inside the park is not allowed.
Can you buy tickets at the entrance?
No. Under the current system, normal walk-up ticket sales are not available and the ticket office does not sell for same-day entry. Do not rely on older guides that say you can simply arrive and pay.
Do tickets sell out?
Individual time slots can fill, particularly around school holidays and other busy periods such as July and August, Christmas and Easter. If Timanfaya is one of the main reasons for your trip, reserve it once your date is fixed.
Are tickets included in organised tours?
Sometimes. Check the individual excursion. Do not assume that a tour mentioning Timanfaya automatically includes the entrance fee: several cheaper coach tours sell the same route without it, and the gap between two otherwise identical listings is usually the ticket, not the quality. When a tour is cheaper than the ticket
If you already have a rental car, official admission is usually the cheapest way to visit. A commercial tour adds value through:

If what you wanted was to walk rather than ride, neither number applies. A guided volcano hike in the neighbouring Los Volcanes Natural Park is $49 with transfers included, less than one adult park ticket, and it puts you on the same lava on foot.
Is there a premium experience?
Yes. The park operator also runs the Insólita experience on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 08:45: a two-hour small-group visit with a guide on the Ruta de los Volcanes, a stop and short ascent at Montaña Rajada, a visit to the Refugio de Tinecheide and a final tasting of local produce and Lanzarote wine. It costs €59.90 for adults, with children up to 6 free, and is booked on the same official ticket shop.
For most first-time visitors, standard admission is enough.
The free walk almost nobody books
The guided walk inside Timanfaya costs nothing: the ranger-led Ruta de Tremesana. It covers about 3.5 km in three hours including the minibus from Yaiza, at a slow pace because the point is interpretation, in small groups, minimum age sixteen. The park’s only other walking route is the long coastal trail on the western shore, about 9 km one way over rough lava, four to five hours and rated high difficulty, with no guide or booking needed.
Booking is mandatory, it runs every day except Thursday, and the park advises reserving at least 25 to 30 days ahead. If your trip is planned that far ahead, it is the best-value guided experience on the island by a wide margin. If it is not, the bookable hikes next door are the realistic alternative. Away from the coastal trail, unescorted hiking inside the national park is not allowed, because the crust over the old lava tubes can collapse.

The walking routes inside the park are the free, ranger-led Ruta de Tremesana, booked separately, and the long, difficult coastal trail on the western shore, which needs no ticket.
Is Timanfaya worth €30?
For the geothermal demonstrations and a landscape you cannot see any other way, most visitors say yes. But if your mental image was walking among the craters, the ticket will not deliver that, and a $49 guided hike next door will.
