Timanfaya National Park costs €30 for an adult, €15 for a child aged 7 to 12, and nothing for under-sevens. The ticket is sold online only, tied to a named date and a timed arrival slot, and it cannot be changed or refunded once bought. There are no gate sales. That last part is recent, it is the single most common reason people arrive and are turned away, and it is why a tour that bundles the entry is worth more than the price gap suggests.

What €30 gets you
Two things, and they happen in the same place.
The Ruta de los Volcanes. A coach route through the interior of the crater field, leaving Islote de Hilario roughly every twenty minutes and running about thirty-five minutes, with recorded commentary in English, Spanish and German. You stay aboard throughout. It is the only way to see the centre of the park — the road is closed to private cars and to walkers — and the landscape it crosses is the reason the park exists.
The geothermal demonstrations at Islote de Hilario. Park staff drop dry brushwood into a shallow pit and it catches without a flame; they pour water down a borehole and it returns, seconds later, as a jet of steam several metres high. The residual heat of the 1730–36 eruption still measures 100 to 120 °C at the surface, and above 600 °C thirteen metres down.
You also get the viewpoints around the visitor centre and the El Diablo restaurant, whose grill is a grate over an open geothermal pit. What you do not get is any walking beyond the terraces.
The rules that catch people out
No gate sales. Tickets moved to online-only advance sale with reserved time slots, and the ticket office no longer sells for same-day entry. If you drive up without a booking, you do not get in.
Your slot is a real slot. You choose an admission time when you book, you are asked to arrive fifteen minutes before it, and the ticket is valid only for that date and time. It cannot be exchanged or refunded — so a cancelled flight, a rainy morning or a change of plan is your loss, not the park’s.
High season sells out days ahead. Slots are finite because the coach fleet is finite. In July and August, and over Christmas and Easter, book as far ahead as you are willing to commit.
You cannot walk in. Unescorted hiking inside the national park is prohibited, because the crust over the old lava tubes can collapse. This is not a soft recommendation; the interior is closed to foot traffic.
When a tour is cheaper than the ticket
Run the arithmetic for two adults driving themselves for one day:

The catch to watch is the opposite one: several cheaper coach tours sell the same route without the entry fees. The gap between two otherwise identical listings is usually the ticket, not the quality. Read the inclusions for the word entry.
And if what you wanted was to walk rather than ride, neither number applies. A guided volcano hike in the neighbouring Los Volcanes Natural Park is $49 with transfers included — less than one adult park ticket — and it puts you on the same lava on foot.
The free walk almost nobody books
There is one legal walking route inside Timanfaya, and it costs nothing: the ranger-led Ruta de Tremesana. About three kilometres over three hours, at roughly a kilometre an hour because the point is interpretation rather than distance, in groups of eight, minimum age sixteen, with a minibus from Yaiza.
Places are released online exactly one month before each date and are gone quickly. If your trip is planned far enough ahead to catch the release, it is the best-value guided experience on the island by a wide margin. If it is not — and for most people it is not — the bookable hikes next door are the realistic alternative.
