Lanzarote's north has a volcanic landscape that no coach route reaches: quarry tracks above Guatiza, the barren rise towards the Mala dam, and the island's highest ground at Peñas del Chache. This tour covers it in a two-seat buggy with a guide leading the convoy.
You are given a windbreaker and dust goggles at the start, then follow a briefed route on dirt tracks — cactus plantations, old quarry cuts, and a long climb to the summit viewpoint, where the whole northern coast opens up. The descent takes a different line back.
It is a driving experience, so the paperwork matters: drivers need an original licence held for at least two years and must be twenty or over. Passengers can be any age in the back, but must be at least 1.35 m to ride in the front. Two- and three-hour versions are sold; the longer one covers more ground.

Do I need a driving licence?
The driver does — an original licence, held for at least two years, and you must be 20 or over. Photocopies and photos of the licence are refused at the meeting point. Passengers need nothing.
Can two of us share one buggy?
Yes. Only the person driving needs a licence, and you can swap places during the tour if you both hold one. Buggies are priced per vehicle, not per head.
Does this tour go into Timanfaya?
No. Off-road driving is not permitted in the national park. This route covers the volcanic north — the Guatiza quarries, the Mala dam and Peñas del Chache — which is why it can leave the tarmac at all.
