Lanzarote: Hike Across Timanfaya's Volcanic Landscapes

About This Experience
This is the walk most visitors assume they are booking when they buy a Timanfaya ticket — and then discover they are not. The national park's Ruta de los Volcanes is a coach road: you see the craters through a window. This tour goes to the ground immediately next door, in the Volcanes Natural Park, where the same 1730–36 eruption laid down lava you are allowed to walk on.
The route runs about nine kilometres over volcanic soil, cinder slopes and hardened lava, at a deliberately unhurried pace. Your guide stops often — at the rim of a crater, at a lava tongue, at a patch of lichen that is the only life for a kilometre in any direction — to explain what you are standing on and how it got there. There is no scramble and no exposure; the difficulty is distance and loose footing, not gradient.
Hotel pickup is an option rather than a default, so check which version you are booking. Snacks are provided, an English- or Spanish-speaking guide leads the group, and the whole thing takes roughly three hours door to door.

- Go at a relaxed pace off the tourist road, in a small guided group

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this hike inside Timanfaya National Park?
No — and that distinction matters. Free hiking inside Timanfaya National Park's core is not permitted; the park is seen from its own coach route, the Ruta de los Volcanes. This walk crosses the adjoining Volcanes Natural Park, which was buried by the same 1730–36 eruption and is open to guided walking.
How hard is the walk?
Moderate, and it is the distance that makes it so: about 9 km on volcanic soil and loose cinder, at an unhurried pace with frequent stops. There is no climbing or exposure, but ankle-supporting closed shoes are essential.
Does the price include hotel pickup?
Only if you choose that option. The listing sells the walk with and without transfers, so check which version is in your basket before you pay.
What is provided on the tour?
A guide, the guided hike itself, snacks, and hotel pickup and drop-off if you selected that option. Bring your own water.
